The genuine remanufactured crankshaft is painstakingly remanufactured with the utmost precision. For example, the tolerances for the rounded parts on the main and connecting rod bearings are between 2 µ and 4 µ – just as they are in series production. This kind of accuracy can be achieved only with precision machinery and detailed knowledge of the relevant specifications.
Once the complex machining process is complete, the surfaces of the bearing points must be of a similar quality to those of a new part. Only then will the genuine remanufactured crankshaft pass inspection in accordance with strict Mercedes‑Benz standards of quality. The appropriate crankshaft bearing shells and thrust plates are also available as options.
A crankshaft is a special shaft with integrated cranks and is used in reciprocating engines in particular. It is mounted in the crankcase along with the main and connecting rod bearings as well as the crank webs and counterweights. The purpose of the crankshaft is to absorb the piston forces transmitted via the connecting rod, convert them into torque and transfer the product to the transmission via the clutch. The component parts required to convert one type of motion into another collectively form the crank assembly.
