How does a clutch actuator work?

An electro-hydraulic clutch actuator replaces the conventional clutch slave cylinder and clutch pedal in the truck. Instead, the clutch engages and disengages fully automatically. The unit is designed as a plug-and-play system and enables highly dynamic and accurate control of the clutch in your commercial vehicle, allowing precise maneuvering, easy docking and safe hill starts.

Gear changes take place by means of hydraulic cylinders and electric actuator motors. The actuator replaces the clutch pedal, which means that the driver no longer has to worry about engine speed and gears and choosing the right moment to shift. When engaged, the clutch actuator disconnects the engine from the transmission, and the software on the transmission control unit calculates the necessary gear change. Depending on the driver's input, the transmission therefore shifts to the next gear up or down, considerably reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the process.
